It is also fundamental to aligning your vibrations so the Law of Attraction works on what you want, rather than what you don't want. Here are two simple meditation techniques for you to use in your journey to self improvement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Meditation came to prominence through the Beatles and this was how I became interested. I use it for energy and peace (which seems a bit contradictory, but it is the essential nature of being in the flow). It is a very simple technique.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the aims of meditation is to attain a state of 'no thought'. Unfortunately, the moment you realize you have attained it, it is over. In some meditation training using the following technique, you are assigned a person-specific mantra word by your trainers that is to be kept secret. So, for the purpose of this instruction we will use the word 'OM'.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is recommended you do not eat or do vigorous exercise 20 minutes either side of meditation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sit comfortably in a chair without arms or headrest, so your arms can rest into your lap and your head is free to move. Decide on how long you will meditate (it's spooky how accurate your 'coming around' is), breathe normally through your nose and begin repeating the mantra in your thoughts. Strive to allow the mantra to rise from somewhere deep inside your mind as a thought, rather than merely saying the word, and don't time the thought to your breathing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you drift into other thoughts, be gentle with yourself and simply indicate a preference to return to thinking the mantra. If your body feels like sagging, allow it. If your head feels like lolling, allow it. Always take the path of least resistance. If you feel yourself sinking or drifting, it's okay - it is all a part of meditation and deep relaxation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sometimes, as you are sinking into deeper levels of consciousness, you may feel a heaviness in the head. This is normal. Allow yourself to keep sinking or move your head a little.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you feel the time is up, slowly begin to stretch out, starting with your fingers. Give yourself a minute or so to come out of meditation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The next meditation technique is Chinese in origin and based on Chi Gong (or Kung) breathing. This technique has other, more powerful benefits that we don't have the space to discuss here, but suffice to say your physical health will receive a giant boost by regular practice. I also add that this technique embraces Wu-Wei, a Taoist principle roughly meaning 'in the flow'. I was instructed that a more accurate meaning is 'Inner Activity - Outer Passivity'.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This can be done standing or sitting. I will describe standing because it generates a much greater feeling of internal strength and power, which is a contrast to the first technique. If your main aim is to relax and energize, seated is fine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Stand up and allow the knees to sag slightly (if you wish to go deeper into Chi Gong, bend the knees more), with the feet straight or turned in marginally. Rock the pelvis slightly so that the natural arch of the back is flattened, and imagine that the crown of your head is being suspended by a string from above. Touch your upper palate lightly with your tongue just behind the main ridge (slide your tongue back from your teeth until you feel the ridge, go down the slope and stop. Lastly, bring your hands around as if you are holding an imaginary 12' -15' ball in front of you. Keep your shoulders relaxed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the set up position to allow maximum Chi energy to flow. Once you have done it a few times, it will become second nature.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, all you need do is slowly breathe diaphragmatically in through the nose and allow your energy to sink down. You can imagine you are a great tree rooted firmly to the ground (this gives a sense of strength and power), or that your diaphragm are bellows, pumping energy all around your body, or that you are at the side of a waterfall, and as the mist caresses you it washes away all your worries. Choose any visualization that works for you. The keys are; stillness, power and sinking your energy down. If you feel a heat in your hands this is pure Chi energy. Some Yoga teachers are very specific about the optimum time for meditation, but some of us have very strict work schedules.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Morning Meditation for Early Risers&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Morning, especially early morning, is traditionally believed to be the best time for meditation, for several different reasons. The first reason is because of atmosphere; the world is still sleepy and quiet in the early morning hours for the most part, depending on where one lives, and this lends itself to a more meditative state automatically. Another reason is because one has, hopefully, just awakened from a good night's sleep and sleep states have a special symbiotic relationship with meditation. One carries the momentum of a restful sleep and meditates - building on the foundation laid during the night, calming the mind and becoming mindful. This state of being present within the moment is then carried throughout the rest of the day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Exceptions to Morning Meditation&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are exceptions to every rule, and it is important not to become attached to a certain time of day. There is no magic time for meditation. The time to meditate is when it is best for you. For example, someone working the third shift should not feel obligated to meditate at six a.m., just because others have good results meditating at that time. For that person, they may do better to meditate in the evening, just before they head off to work.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Night Meditation for Late Risers&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;An alternative time to meditate is before going to bed in the evening. For some people, this could be their primary meditation time; for others, this would be their secondary meditation time. Attaining a calmer state, through meditation before bed, can lead to some of the best sleep one has experienced in their entire life. One of the primary causes of sleepless nights is the mind's inability to cease its thinking long enough for one to drift off to sleep. Bringing stillness to the mind, through meditation, eliminates this problem.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Brief Meditation Sessions&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In addition to a scheduled meditation, it is also helpful to try mini-meditation sessions throughout the day. These meditations need not be long; even a few minutes will do. When an individual has already trained his or her mind to be still through normal meditation sessions, it takes relatively little time to achieve that state throughout the day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just as the muscles in the physical body have a memory, so does one's inner space. For those who only meditate for a few minutes, it must be remembered: An individual cannot realistically hope to reach deep states of meditation and reap all of the rewards of the practice during short sessions. Cool body, cool mind. Before meditation, clean your body and mouth by taking a bath, gargling, etc. If you meditate immediately after taking bath, your body and mind will feel fresh and awake. During the day or evening, you may take a yogic half bath by cooling arms, face, navel, neck and feet with cool water. Also cleanse the mouth and nose with water.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Sacred space, silent mind. Sit on a meditation blanket or pillow made of wool or any other non-conductive material. Keep one blanket that is only used for your personal meditation. Use a wool blanket, because wool is a good insulator from the electrical currents in the earth. Create a sacred "pitha" in your place of spiritual practices by only using it for meditation or study of spiritual scriptures. Do not meditate on your bed, as it will tend to make you sleepy. Keep one room, or at least part of a room, where there is no activity except meditation. It need not be a large space-3-4 square feet in a corner is sufficient. By doing your daily meditation there, you will gradually create a strong, spiritual vibration, so that merely sitting there will elevate your mind.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Straight spine, concentrated mind. Although meditation is relaxing, it is not the same as relaxation, so maintain alertness by sitting with a straight spine. When your spine is completely straight, it can easier carry the spiritual energy of the kundalini. By raising your head high and sitting erect, our mind will be alert and awake. Relaxing your back somewhat, allowing your spine to curve even a little, will likely cause your mind to become drowsy and wander.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Slow breath, deep soul. Breathe slowly and deeply. Yogic and tantric scriptures state that controlling the breath is the key to controlling the prana (vital energy of the body), and controlling the prana is the key to controlling the mind. Do not hold your breath or strain, but allow your breathing to naturally become slower and deeper. This will gradually induce a deeper and deeper state of calm, concentration and bliss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Sacred books, sacred spirit. We work hard and we seek relief and escape that we find in many different ways, many pleasurable ways.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For some, pleasure is defined as freedom from work, unstructured time, travel, leisure activities, not following a proscribed plan, leaving responsibilities behind.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pleasure can be seen as a way to escape from our responsibilities, things that are "good" for us, and things that benefit us. We many see exercise or meditation in this way, activities that we "should" do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For many years I struggled in my meditation practice. I struggled because I believed that meditation should be a way to free my mind of thoughts and I should enter a state of bliss. My meditations were not like that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rather than a quiet mind, my sitting meditations consisted of list making and obsessive thinking and attempting to follow a structure, like counting breathes, letting go of thoughts, and putting thoughts aside until the meditation was finished.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Those forms of meditation were not helpful for me. I felt frustrated and I felt as though I had failed to meditate correctly.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I started thinking about mindfulness. I read about it and practiced it and my intuition told me it was a form of meditation that suited me. I instinctively knew that I would benefit by practicing mindfulness, that I would learn about myself and become more aware, and kinder to myself and others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then I read a comment about mindfulness that helped me to commit to this practice without feeling like I should do it but rather I want to do it. I read that mindfulness is pleasurable in itself, and I found it to be true.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tasks previously considered mundane, repetitive or unimportant, when done mindfully, became pleasurable. Washing dishes in warm soapy water became pleasurable. Driving to work in early morning became pleasurable. Even sitting in meetings became pleasurable.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mindfulness, being fully in the present moment, giving full attention to what I do is truly pleasurable. Mindlessness, running on automatic pilot, doing one thing and wishing to do something else or be somewhere else is the opposite of pleasurable.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Being a person who loves pleasure, and experiencing the pleasure of mindfulness made the practice something I wanted to commit to and has become a way of life for me. When I am mindful, I am living life fully, in the present moment and even during difficult times, I see beauty and wisdom.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I am mindful, my mind is quiet and my heart is open and I find great pleasure in that. It is simple, easy to do, and is often used before actually starting meditation. While there are some different ways you can do these exercises, one of the basic one is to breathe in through your nose and out of your mouth, filling your lungs and exhaling slowly and with purpose. Some experience a light headed state, and this is normal because the oxygen level in your body is much more than usual.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Simple meditation is perhaps another easy meditation, especially for those just starting out. You simple choose a peaceful setting where ever you happen to be, a grove of trees, a small area in your home, some people even use their vehicle. Here you just sit and spend up to twenty minutes in silent contemplation. As you gain more control, you can extend this period as long as you want.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some people have trouble just letting go and sit in silence for a period of time. Another effective technique is the Category concentration technique. This can help you focus your attention more on a certain aspect you want to improve on or contemplate. For an example if you wanted to lose weight, then you would think about ways you can do this. What ways you can eat better, or get some exercise that doesn't feel like it.&lt;br /&gt;Journey meditation is a type where in order to achieve better state of mind you have to use visualization. Picturing yourself achieving your goals, whether it is to have a family, be wealthy, or in good health. You visualize driving that car you've always wanted for an example.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Vibrational meditation is also very effective. This is where you concentrate on a certain work or sound, allowing the vibrations to pass into and through your body. You have to concentrate on repeating this sound or word again and again to achieve a better level of consciousness.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is also healing meditation, although it is called many different things including body scan. In this method the idea is to focus your thoughts on certain parts of your body, or an ailment you may have. In many cases people that practice this also do research on what is wrong with them, but you don't always have to. For an example, if you have a broken leg, or a surgery, you would focus your energy and thoughts on the bones mending together, becoming stronger, and leaving no scars.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Movement meditation involves the movement of the body, with gentle movements and easy breathing. Moving to the beat of music, dancing, and even singing are all allowed and even encouraged. It doesn't matter if you know how to do these, just getting into the flow of it helps to release stress and anxiety.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is also the pond technique, and this can be quite helpful for a number of different problems that are going on in your life. You simply sit in a quiet place, with your eyes closed, picturing a serene pond in front of you. It is full of pebbles, each representing a thought or a feeling that is negative. You take out these pebbles one by one setting them aside. You also want to put back good pebbles, ones that represent good things that are going on in your life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yoga is also an effective form of meditation for some people.
